“Celebrating 41 years of Bridging Industry and Education”

NFIEC History

In 1974 the Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce joined with Erie 1 BOCES to establish the Niagara Frontier Industry Education Council (NFIEC).  NFIEC’s mission is to build bridges between industry and education to benefits students.  For forty years, NFIEC has been bringing executives, educators, parents, and students together to develop strategies, which will help build the skills our students, need to become successful in the workplace.  Initially, NFIEC functioned as a common meeting ground for business, industry, education, labor and government. Today, as a result of ongoing efforts to meet with, counsel, and cooperate with one another.  NFIEC has developed and presented a wide variety of programs, courses, and community services – all aimed at helping the student of today become the educated, well-adjusted, and contributing employee of tomorrow.

CCP formerly known as Business & Education Employability Portfolio (BEEP) – High School students learn workplace skills and how to showcase them by participating in a project called CCP.  With the help of business partners, NFIEC and the West Seneca Schools teamed up over 19 years ago to create a portfolio and website called BEEP, now rebranded CCP.  It is offered in school districts throughout Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.  When students participate in CCP, they learn to possess and showcase skills that employers want.  Students complete a digital portfolio through the CCP portal website which provides employers and directors of admissions with an all-encompassing overview of a student’s abilities.  Local business people have stood behind this initiative by completing a review of student’s portfolios and signing off on them as “students who are employable.”  After the review process, NFIEC presents the students with Certificates of Employability.

CCP features the following:

  • An in-depth exploration of careers and compilation of a student’s resume, cover letter and letters of reference.
  • A report on levels of competency reached regarding New York State Learning Standards and Common Core Standards.
